Hua Hin is Thailand`s oldest sea resort. Its development from a small
fishing harbor to an important tourist center began in 1911, when the
railway line from Bangkok to Singapore was built. At that time the line firstly
operated from Bangkok to Hua Hin and covered 213 km distance. It has made Hua
Hin a place of retreat from the summer heat, especially for people from
Bangkok. The present building of the station was built in1926. The building -
half wooden and half brick - was influenced from Victorian architecture. More
designs were added in Chinese art and architecture. The columns are richly
decorated.
In connection to the building of the railway station the railway hotel
was established as an accommodation for railway passengers. The ingenious
Italian architect A. Rigazzi has designed it as a luxurious two-storey
European-style resort hotel (Victorian style as the Railroad Station).
Since 1926 the Royal Family in Hua Hin has been using the palace Wang Klai Kangwon as a summer residence.
